The Cloud Who Was Afraid to Rain
Cumulus the cloud is scared that nobody will like him if he rains. But the flowers are thirsty!
High up in the sky floated a small, puffy cloud named Cumulus.
Cumulus loved being fluffy and white. He liked making shapes — a bunny, a boat, a birthday cake.
But one day, Cumulus started to feel heavy. Very, very heavy. He was full of raindrops!
"Oh no," he worried. "If I rain, everyone will run inside. They will say, 'Go away, rain!' Nobody will like me."
So Cumulus held his raindrops in. He got bigger and grayer and grumpier.
Below him, the flowers were drooping. The grass was turning brown. A little bird looked for a puddle to drink from, but there were none.
"Please, Cumulus," called a sunflower. "We are so thirsty!"
Cumulus felt nervous. But he took a deep breath and... let go.
Pitter, patter, pitter, patter! The rain fell softly on the garden.
The flowers lifted their heads. The grass turned green. The bird splashed in a fresh puddle. And the children? They put on their rain boots and jumped in the puddles, laughing!
When the rain stopped, the sun came out — and a beautiful rainbow stretched across the sky.
"Thank you, Cumulus!" everyone called. Cumulus felt light and fluffy again. "Being brave feels good," he smiled.
