Rosie had a packet of seeds and a little shovel. "I am going to grow a rainbow garden!" she said.

She dug small holes in the dirt. She dropped in the seeds. She covered them up and gave them a drink of water.

The next morning, Rosie ran outside. Nothing! Just brown dirt.

"Seeds need time," said Papa. "And sunshine, and water."

So Rosie waited. Every day she watered the dirt. Every day the sun shone down.

One morning, she saw something tiny and green poking up. "A sprout!" she shouted.

The sprouts grew taller and taller. Then little buds appeared. And then, one sunny day, the buds opened up!

There was a RED poppy. An ORANGE marigold. A YELLOW sunflower. A GREEN zinnia. A BLUE cornflower. And a PURPLE violet.

"Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple," Rosie counted. "It's a real rainbow garden!"

Butterflies came to visit. Bees buzzed from bloom to bloom. Rosie sat in the middle of it all, smiling.

"Waiting was hard," she said. "But it was worth it."
