Every spring, the garden bugs held the Great Garden Race. The grasshopper hopped. The beetle scurried. The ladybug flew.

And Sammy Snail? Sammy slid. Very... very... slowly.

"Ready, set, GO!" Everyone zoomed off. Zip! Zoom! Whizz!

Sammy slid past a daisy. He stopped to smell it. "Mmm, sweet!"

He slid past a dewdrop on a leaf. The sunlight made it sparkle like a rainbow. "How beautiful!"

He saw a mama bird feeding her babies. He saw a tiny mushroom popping out of the ground. He saw an ant carrying a crumb bigger than itself!

When Sammy finally reached the finish line, the race had been over for a very long time. The grasshopper was already snacking. "You came in last, Sammy," he said.

Sammy just smiled. "Did you see the sparkling dewdrop? Or the baby birds? Or the super-strong ant?"

The other bugs looked at each other. "We were going too fast to see anything," said the beetle.

"Tell us about it!" said the ladybug.

So Sammy told them all about his wonderful trip. The bugs listened, amazed.

The next day, everybody went for a slow walk through the garden β€” with Sammy in the lead.
