Kitty Wants a Turn
When a new puppy comes home, Kitty feels left out, until she finds there is enough love for two.
Kitty lived with Nora. Every day, Nora brushed Kitty's fur, and Kitty purred on Nora's lap.
One day, Nora came home with a puppy. His name was Biscuit. He had floppy ears and a wiggly tail.
Nora played ball with Biscuit. Nora laughed at Biscuit. Nora gave Biscuit a new red bowl.
Kitty hid under the sofa. She felt hot and prickly inside. "Nora likes Biscuit more than me," she thought.
That night, Nora looked under the sofa. "There you are, Kitty," she said softly. "I missed you."
Nora picked Kitty up and held her close. "I love Biscuit," she said, "and I love you too. My heart is big enough for both of you."
Kitty purred a little.
The next day, Biscuit rolled the ball to Kitty. Kitty patted it back. Biscuit rolled it again. Pat, roll, pat, roll.
Nora clapped. "You two are playing together!"
That evening, Nora sat on the sofa with Kitty on one side and Biscuit on the other. Kitty purred, and Biscuit wagged. There was room for everyone.
