Kip was a kangaroo with a big, cozy pouch. Her baby, Joey, liked to ride inside it and peek out at the world.

One morning, Kip and Joey went hopping through the bush. Boing! Boing! Boing!

They met Koala, who looked sad. "I dropped my favorite eucalyptus leaves," Koala sniffled.

"We can help!" said Joey. He found the leaves and popped them into the pouch.

Next they met Wren the fairy-wren. "My nest fell down," she chirped. "I need soft twigs to build a new one."

Kip and Joey gathered soft twigs and put them in the pouch too.

Then they met a lost little lizard. "I'm too tired to walk home," he yawned. "Hop in!" said Joey.

Boing! Boing! Boing! Kip hopped all over the bush. She gave Koala her leaves. She gave Wren her twigs. She took the little lizard home.

At the end of the day, Kip's pouch held only one sleepy Joey.

"Mama," Joey yawned, "your pouch is magic. It's full of helping."

Kip smiled and hopped slowly home under the stars.
