Hazel the hedgehog lived under a big oak tree. She had a pointy nose, tiny feet and lots and lots of spikes.

One day, Hazel felt a little lonely. "I wish I could have a hug," she said.

She asked Rabbit. "Can I have a hug?" Rabbit looked at her spikes. "Um... maybe later," he said, hopping back.

She asked Mouse. Mouse squeaked, "Your spikes look a bit prickly!"

Hazel curled into a little ball. "Nobody wants to hug a hedgehog," she whispered.

Rabbit and Mouse felt bad. They didn't want Hazel to be sad. So they had an idea.

Rabbit gathered the softest leaves in the forest. Mouse found a fluffy dandelion puff. Together they made a big, soft blanket.

They wrapped the blanket around Hazel's back. "Now," said Rabbit, "hug time!"

And they gave Hazel the biggest, squishiest group hug in the whole forest.

Hazel smiled from ear to ear. "Thank you, friends. That was the best hug ever."

From then on, the leaf blanket hung by the oak tree, ready for hugs any time.
