In a quiet pond, floating among the lily pads, was a clump of jelly-like eggs. Inside one tiny egg was Freddie.

After a few days, Freddie wiggled out. But he didn't look like a frog at all! He had a round body, a long wiggly tail and no legs. He was a tadpole.

"How will I ever hop?" Freddie wondered as he swam through the water, breathing with gills just like a fish.

Freddie ate lots of tiny green plants called algae. He grew and grew.

A few weeks later, Freddie felt a tickle. Two little back legs had popped out! Then, a while after that, two front legs appeared.

His tail began to get shorter and shorter. His body got longer. And instead of gills, he grew lungs so he could breathe air.

One sunny morning, Freddie swam to the top of the pond, climbed onto a lily pad and took his very first breath of fresh air.

"I'm a frog!" he croaked. "RIBBIT!"

Freddie looked at the big gap between his lily pad and the next one. He bent his strong back legs, and β€” BOING! β€” he made his very first jump.

He landed with a splash and a smile. From egg to tadpole to froglet to frog, Freddie had changed so much.

Later that summer, Freddie watched a new clump of eggs floating in the pond. "Good luck, little ones," he croaked. "You won't believe what you'll become!"
