On a breezy spring day, Theo ran across the park with his red and yellow kite. Up, up it went into the blue sky!

The kite loved flying. It danced with the wind and waved its ribbon tail at the birds.

But the kite grumbled. "This string holds me back. If I were free, I could fly all the way to the clouds!"

A wise old seagull flew by. "Are you sure about that?" she asked.

"Of course!" said the kite. "The string is the only thing stopping me."

Just then, a big gust of wind blew — WHOOSH! — and the string slipped out of Theo's hand.

"I'm free!" shouted the kite. But instead of flying higher, it began to spin and flip. Round and round, down and down it tumbled, until it landed in a tall bush.

Theo ran over and gently untangled the kite. "Are you okay?" he said.

The seagull landed nearby. "A kite flies high because the string holds it steady against the wind," she said. "It's not holding you back. It's helping you soar."

Theo tied the string on tight and ran again. The kite rose higher than ever before, steady and strong.

"Thank you, string," the kite whispered. "And thank you, Theo."
